I’m Amy Taylor-Kabbaz, an author, journalist + Matrescence Activist. For more than a decade, I’ve been trying to answer the question: “what happens to a woman when she becomes a mother?”
I searched for answers everywhere, unable to find anything that adequately described what I’d been through, and what nearly 5,000 women have shared with me.
Until, I heard the word ‘matrescence’.
Matrescence is the radical identity shift a woman goes through as she becomes a mother.
As Dr Aurelie Athan first described, Matrescence is like adolescence:
It is a time in a woman’s life when everything changes - her whole identity shifts. When a woman becomes a mother, she splits in two: who she used to be, and the Mother. And unless we honour that radical shift, she will get lost trying to figure out who she is now.
Once you’ve got the map, the journey gets easier... and really, really exciting. Because it’s the making of you.
Get your Matrescence Map here - a six page ebook to empower you to understand why you feel the way you do, and the first steps to take.
